Demand Flow Technology vs. Lean & ERP Scheduling
Demand Flow Technology-
Lets understand the difference between kitting which puts an equal emphasis on all parts in the kit and "pull" which allows an emphasis based on the specific part? The only way kitting makes any sense is if all parts cost the same, take the same space, have the same quality usage and pull the same quantity from the supply chain.
Kitting is a non-productive technique of the ERP systems designed in the 60's. They schedule the work order, allocate the material to the order, pick the kit and issue the parts to the order. Ask Scheduling to explain how they would handle pulling one part from the supplier to the line daily, one part from the supplier to RIP weekly and another part from the supplier to stores twice a month when they all go into the same kit...Just for starters...
